Today, a consultative meeting was held between the main actors in the field of agriculture and local government. In this meeting, it was discussed on facilitating the process of transferring the competencies of the Irrigation and Drainage function from the central government to the Municipalities.

The Agriculture sector in the country is an area of ​​national priority due to the economic potential it has. Through the decentralization process, this sector will be more able to operate with maximum efficiency, thus influencing a more sustainable development for the local areas where this sector is developed.

The meeting, which was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture, the Agency for the Implementation of Territorial Reform, was supported by the National Association of Municipalities of Albania, the Association of Municipalities and the Programming for Planning and Local Governance (USAID). In conclusion, the experts laid the foundations for the construction of a draft strategy for Irrigation and Drainage in rural areas.
