Adelina Farrici is the Executive Director of the National Association of Municipalities of Albania. She was born on April 8, 1968 in Burrel. After completing high school at the “Pjetër Budi” gymnasium in Burrel, Adelina attended the University of Tirana, at the Faculty of Natural Sciences, where she graduated in 1990, in the physics department. In 2010, she pursued postgraduate studies in the field of Business Administration.
Starting in 1990, for two decades, Farrici would engage in the education system, where she would work as a teacher and director in several pre-university educational institutions. During this period, she would be involved in a series of movements where she stands out as an activist for women’s rights and the inclusion of the community in decision-making processes.
In 2011, she was elected the first female mayor in the history of the Burrel Municipality, one of the most important units of the Dibër district. As mayor, Farrici successfully managed to overcome gender biases, encouraging the female figure in this region to become more active and participate in decision-making processes. At the same time, she would bring more transparency and citizen inclusion in local government, as well as paying special attention to social problems and vulnerable groups.
During Farrici’s government, the city of Burrel would experience a period of sustainable socio-economic development, as well as a maximum commitment by local government authorities towards the development of school infrastructure and environmental protection. She will also be remembered for a special contribution regarding the development and implementation of territorial reform and the decentralization process, in particular in the Mati area and in the entire country.
Adelina Farrici would be elected Executive Director of the National Association of Municipalities of Albania in December 2015. She is currently also a member of the Advisory Committee for the FLED project supported by the Swedish government as well as Secretary of the national delegation to the Congress of Regional and Local Authorities.
Farrici has completed a series of specializations offered by the most prestigious institutions and organizations, both domestically and internationally, with a focus on local governance and decentralization, educational management, gender equality and the inclusion of women in decision-making processes.
She speaks English and Russian.
Adelina is married to Urimi and together they have two sons, Renaldo and Klajdi.
