Switzerland stands by Albania on its journey towards transparent, accountable and inclusive governance.

Local authorities are essential for democracy and are key actors in the implementation of common European policies. The role of municipalities in the EU integration process is essential. The European Union has actively supported local autonomy in Albania through various initiatives and projects aimed at strengthening local governance and improving public services.

Good local governance is the main pillar for a strong and sustainable democracy. The National Forum for Local Democracy harmonizes the interaction and common objectives of local actors in order to strengthen transparency and accountability in decision-making, ensuring that citizens are at the center of every process.

In addition to organizing the National Forum for Local Democracy this year, we also launched the SHAV Forums, which serve to address issues of importance to local government and provide recommendations on sectoral draft laws.
