The new municipality of Lushnje borders the municipalities of Rrogozhina and Peqin to the north, Divjaka to the east, Fier and Roskovec to the south, and Belsh to the west. The capital of the new municipality is the city of Lushnje. According to the 2011 Census, the new municipality of Lushnje has a population of 83,659 inhabitants, while the Civil Registry shows a population of 127,438 inhabitants. The area of the new municipality is 372.72 km2. and with a population density of 341.91 inhabitants/km2. This municipality consists of 11 administrative units. The new municipality has one city and 85 villages under its administration. The new municipality has a generally rural area under its administration, where 63 percent of the population lives in 85 villages that are part of it. Lushnja is also the most important agricultural area of Albania with crops, vegetables, melons and livestock products in the lowlands, as well as olives and vineyards in the hilly areas. Also in rural areas there are residents who practice their activity in raising small livestock such as cows and sheep. Part of the new municipality will also be the tourist spot of the Ardenica Monastery, which is located in the Kolonjë administrative unit.
