The National Association of Municipalities of Albania welcomes the establishment of the Local Governance Academy – an initiative that comes as a result of a common will between the Government, local self-government units and numerous partners, as well as in response to a long-standing request of municipalities and regional councils.

Our Association has been a key actor in this process, contributing to the drafting of policies, representing the interests of municipalities and facilitating dialogue between the parties involved. Through its continuous engagement, the Association has helped identify the real needs of local self-government units and has promoted sustainable solutions for the professional development of local officials.

A special thanks goes to the Minister of State for Local Government, the Agency for Local Self-Government Support (AMVV), as well as all other local partners who have contributed to this important achievement, where we would like to single out the Swiss Government and the Swedish Government, which, through the Strong Municipalities – Helvetas project, have provided valuable technical support and international expertise, bringing good models and facilitating a comprehensive consultation process with central, local and regional stakeholders.

The establishment of the Academy for Local Governance aims to modernize and strengthen the capacities of local elected officials and local administration, increasing the quality of public services and contributing to the sustainable development of our communities. The National Association of Municipalities remains committed to supporting this process, in close cooperation with the Government, municipalities and all partners, in order to achieve a more efficient, transparent and compliant local governance in line with European standards.
