The National Association of Municipalities of Albania participated in the conference “Reflecting on the achievements of the Reform Agenda and exploring future opportunities”, organized by the Embassy of Switzerland in Albania and the Institute for Cooperation and Development (CDI).
The conference brought together representatives of central and local institutions, the European Union, the private sector and civil society to reflect on the progress of the Reform Agenda so far and to discuss concrete steps towards the new EU budget cycle and the objective of membership by 2030.
In the panel “Preparing the next steps: Albania’s path towards the next EU budget cycle”, Mr. Ervin Demo, Minister of State for Local Government, emphasized the importance of the Performance-Based Grant as a mechanism that measures and encourages the performance of municipalities in the provision of public services. He underlined that this instrument orients financial support towards concrete results, contributing to the construction of a more efficient, transparent and sustainable local government.
Adelina Farrici, Executive Director of #SHKBSH, emphasized the need to strengthen the capacities of municipalities in the absorption of EU funds, especially within the framework of the new financial cycle. She highlighted the strategic role of the #EU4Municipalities project in technical support to municipalities, and presented the initiative for the construction of a digital platform for knowledge management. This platform will serve as a structured database with information on EU legislation, funding opportunities, studies, practical guides and manuals, in support of European integration processes at the local level.
The conference served as an important space for dialogue on strengthening the role of local government in structural reforms and preparations for new financial opportunities of the European Union.
