🇸🇪🤝 Study visit to Stockholm, Sweden begins
Today began the first intensive day of the study visit to Sweden, where together with the mayors of the municipalities Gëzim Topçiu, Oltion Çaçi and @Miftar Dauti, the deputy mayor of Tirana Municipality @Vasilika Vjero and the Executive Director Adelina Farrici, we held meetings with the Swedish counterpart organization @SALAR
📍 During this day, we were closely acquainted with the Swedish model of local government and the key role of SALAR in supporting municipalities, through discussions on:
▪️ The functioning of the local self-government system and the division of competences
▪️ The role of SALAR as a strategic partner and representative voice at the national and European level
▪️ The engagement of local government in European integration processes
▪️ The experiences of former candidate countries in the inclusion of municipalities in the accession process
▪️ Advanced models of citizen participation in decision-making
▪️ The financial equalization system as a mechanism for balanced development between municipalities
💬 The discussions also focused on best practices in the function of European integration, as well as on the role of local government in this process. Special attention was paid to the administrative-territorial reform, sharing concrete suggestions for a functional, sustainable and comprehensive reform.
This exchange of experiences constitutes an important step towards strengthening the capacities of Albanian municipalities and approaching European standards of local government.
The visit was organized within the framework of the project “Strengthening the Albanian Local Government”, with the support of Swiss Development & Cooperation Albania.
