Peqin borders the municipality of Tirana to the north, the municipality of Elbasan to the east, the municipality of Cërrik to the south-east, the municipality of Lushnje to the south and the municipality of Belsh to the south. The capital of the municipality is the city of Peqin. According to the 2011 Census, Peqin has a population of 26,136 inhabitants. Meanwhile, according to the Civil Registry, this municipality has 38,900 inhabitants. The new municipality covers an area of ​​197.79 km2 with a density of 196.67 inhabitants/km2. This municipality consists of 6 administrative units. The new municipality has under its administration one city and 50 villages. The new municipality of Peqin lies along the old Egnatia road, while the Claudian castle in the city center is evidence of the antiquity of this settlement. The city and all 50 villages of this municipality lie in a plain and hilly area. The inhabitants of the municipality of Peqin are oriented towards agriculture and viticulture, but also poultry farming. The cultivation of olives, greenhouse vegetables and other agricultural products are also characteristic of the area. Peqin is known for raising turkeys, which are highly sought after throughout Albania during holidays, as well as for the sport of cockfighting. Businesses are mainly focused on services, while several olive oil factories have also been established in Peqin.
